Looking back, I've been doing mostly online dating for the past few years. It's not that I haven't spoken to women in different situations, but online has been the only place I've gone to for the purpose of talking to women and getting dates.
Today, I was up on my old campus, and decided to try a few approaches. Actually I decided to do one (which turned into three), and calling it an approach is like calling McDonald's a restaurant, but it was done. Mind you, the campus is nearly deserted since exams are done and the semester is done.
I've noticed a cute Asian girl with black hair and what seemed to be study supplies sitting on the grass, so I decided to go and try start a conversation. Cut across the field and walked over as to walk past her from the front, stopped, and said "It's a nice day for studying outside". Only when the words left my mouth I realized what I mistook for study supplies was just her purse... She looked up from her phone and said "yeah it is" in a dismissive way. I didn't know how to continue from there so I ejected and moved on. Walking away I figured after some thinking I could have tried to guess her major with something like "I bet you're an accounting student, right?" (somehow, 50% of this school seems to be accounting students and the other 50% seems to be engineers, I swear it's a real university though). Something to keep in mind for next time, but I should figure out both "yes" and "no" responses.
After taking a walk around the campus since I'm trying to incorporate 11,000 steps into my day, I noticed another cute girl sitting in the same field on one of the benches. She was reading something so I took the same route to walk close to her but not towards her, turn my head, and asked about the book. I thought by the cover it was a book I was actually interested in, but turns out it was a different one. I didn't know again how to continue so I ejected.
Going inside the building I used to do research in, I noticed a cute girl checking out the grad student photos. I walked by and asked "Are you looking for your photo?" she said she was looking for a friend's photo. I can tell she was quite reserved since she is Chinese and didn't grow up here. We talked a bit and turns out she is in computer science, the same field I was in, and she asked me what I was doing which I took as somewhat of an IOI, but later in the conversation it turned out she is a first year undergrad student so, 17 or 18 at most. I ejected since I had no interest in practicing or dating an 18 year old since I'm 30.
All in all it was an interesting day since it's been forever since I felt the feeling of AA again, it's like how you greet a hangover as if it were an old friend "so that's what it was like." But in terms of real world approaches, I can tell I've got lots to recover in both technique, delivery, fast-paced thinking, and overcoming AA. I have to do it though since it's hardly clear what kind of circumstances I could meet a girl I'd like to marry.
