I'm doing my best to take a walk outside each day until I figure out a more meaningful fitness regime I can take on without a high chance of covid exposure now.
On my stroll today there was a street festival I walked by in one of the public parks. Not far from it, I saw an Asian girl sitting on a bench that I walked past. As I walked about two steps past I turned over and asked her if she saw the festival. She said she didn't but asked what was happening there, so I told her briefly about it being a street festival there. It was a cherry blossom festival like they have in Japan.
As we're talking I noticed the girl had a bit of an accent so I asked her where she was from (in retrospect that wasn't a good question, because I'm pretty sure EVERY guy asks her that due to her accent and this being Canada). She told me she's from Korea so I talked to her a bit about my desire to travel there. All this time I have my body at almost a 45 degree angle so I have to turn my head a bit to talk to her. I ask her for places to check out in Korea aside from the old temples which I'm really interested in.
After we chat for a bit, I ask if I can join her on the bench. She says she's waiting for someone but she's okay with it, so I sit at some distance from her and we continue talking. After maybe 5 minutes of chatting her friend calls, and she spends about 2 minutes talking to them; They are late and are on the other side of town so it will take them some time to get there. After she hangs up she mentions she could have stayed at the starbucks longer. I joke with her should could have gotten another coffee (she mentioned she drinks 3 per day on avg), and then I say I have to get going and get up. Then after half a step I turn over and I say "Do you want to continue this conversation?", but she says she doesn't feel comfortable with that, so I leave with "ok then".
On the way back I notice a girl sitting in the public park on one of the public tables. I walk in her direction (from her back) aiming to pass her by within her field of vision, and then turn to talk to her. As I'm walking in front of her, I notice a little white dog under the table sitting close to her. I look up at her and say I walked by and didn't even notice the dog, it must be hiding from the rain. She says it just finished its meal she gave it.
I ask her about the festival as well and if she's seen it, but she mentions she didn't know about it at all, but was hearing the sound so was planning to go there. My brain completely froze and I had nowhere to go to after that, so I started walking away. Then I realized since I'm already walking away, might as well try something more direct. I turn back in her direction, take a few steps back and say "hey I know this is unusual, but I did actually just saw you when I walked by and wanted to come over and say 'hi', can I join you here for a few minutes?" However, she says she's just about to go to the area with the noise, so I eject from that situation as well.
