So I've matched with this girl online and we chatted over text a bit. We made plans to meet up but then she had to cancel due to personal reasons.
We kept texting, and talked on the phone. When we talked on the phone the interaction was really great, and after the call she texted me about meeting up and we made plans on Sunday.
Today's Saturday and I get the following text:
Her: Morning. I've concluded that other areas of my life require my attention right now. So, I won't be moving forward with this connection. It was nice chatting with you, even if briefly so. Take care
I responded with:
Me: Did something happen
Her: No. Been doing some thinking
Me: And decided we don't match?
Her: I'm not sure what answer you're looking for here
Me: It sounded like we had a good connection over the phone so this is a very sudden turn. Did I say something?
Her: The connection ebbs and flows now. The initial momentum seems lost. Perhaps if we had in fact met that day when I had to take a rain check... anyway, texting at this length about this is bound to lead to miscommunication
So I go ahead and call her. We talk and the conversation flows beautifully again, she's laughing the whole time, and she said "You know I didn't expect to stay on the call for this long, but I'm all smiles now!" and we remade the plans to meet tomorrow.
I genuinely don't know what tomorrow will bring, but in general I am thinking that there is something about phone calls versus texts that creates a different connection and perhaps my inclination to approach many interactions via text has been flawed from the get-go. Maybe in the same way that when people write online comments on YouTube/Facebook/Twitter they are a lot shittier than they would allow themselves to be in real life.
What do you think?
