I was out yesterday to get some groceries. Didn't think much could happen so I was dressed "okay" but not sharp, messy hair, all in all not like someone ready for action. As I am going through the meat section I noticed a cute girl next to me. I notice she is wearing a mask (as am I), so I realize communication might be a bit hard but I still turn over and ask "How's it going?"
She replies with a smile and "It's good". While it's not a very engaging response, I get the feeling she isn't uncomfortable either, she just had nothing to answer. So I continue the conversation by saying how much more expensive everything has become, and she says that she is in fact looking for something to make for dinner but she is going by the price. I tell her instead of arranging by animal they need to arrange by price now and she laughs. She says didn't want to go with her friend for quesadillas because they really go out for the drinks and she doesn't drink.
I ask her where her accent is from and she says from Ecuador so I reply with the only thing that I know in Spanish being "No hablo Espanol" since I get mistaken for Mexican if I tan. She asks me where I am from so I take it as an IOI.
We chat a bit more, and then I say, "okay, I need to continue shopping, let's go". She comes with me to the frozen vegetable section so I take that as an IOI. We talk a little bit about what she is doing here in Canada and she is studying for a career change. She has very good eye contact so I tell her she is probably a very good public speaker, so she responds she actually gets nervous a lot when public speaking but still manages to keep a strong eye contact and not look at the floor. I should have perhaps told her I can be her speaking coach (since I did public speaking A LOT) in my previous job, but instead I don't remember what I said.
I felt the conversation was going well and I wanted to leave on a high note so I took a line from Style and said "Well, I need to get going, but it was nice talking to you" and rock on my leg as if I am going, but then say "actually, can we continue this conversation?" and she says "yes". I ask her if she has whatsapp and she gives me her number, I call it on the spot so she has mine, but I notice as she is typing in her number her legs are crossed and she doesn't have a very open body language. Maybe she was shy, or maybe she was on the fence about the number.
After I get home, another half an hour goes by and then I text her:
Me: Hey HBEquador, it's WT, your new grocery shopping partner
Now because of you I want quesadillas
Her: Hello
Hahaa
Me: We need to find quesadilla place without drinking
Do you drink coffee?
Her: Yes I do
We can have coffee there
Is good
Me: Will you tell me about Ecuador more?
Her: Sueee
Sure
Ahhaa
*Send me a picture of bananas*
Me: Is that your dinner? Food is not THAT expensive, you can buy more!
Want to go for coffee tomorrow?
Her: I finish very late at my job
We can figure out after my class during weekdays
Me: When do you finish class?
Her: 7pm
Monday
Me: Oh cool, we can meet after and go to the water front just take a walk
Her: Sounds good
7pm
Me: So late, are you sure you won't kidnap me?
Her: Ah?
Me: Joking
And since then the conversation is cold. It's Saturday today already so I'm thinking of texting tomorrow (Sunday), but not sure what to say. It seems like she is on the edge so I need to either DHV or build some comfort, any ideas?
