How credible is Neil Strauss' The Game?

I've started listening to the audiobook and I'm not even past the 20 min mark, but I find myself wondering about the credibility of this book. The opening scene with Mystery in the asylum running into a hot shrink raised my eyebrow and the next scene with Dustin kissing 5 girls in the club without even talking to the first raised the other one and got me writing this thread.

Has the credibility of this book been brought into question? Was it ever verified or proven to be BS? Has Strauss himself or any of the people written about commented on it?

Short answer: it has not been verified

Long answer: I'm not even sure how you'd go about verifying this. Putting the asylum and Dustin's chapters aside, because they aren't central to the idea (though they are to the plot), I think what you're asking is if Style and Mystery are as good pickup artist as they claim to be. And the answer is I don't know. You can watch VH1's The Pickup Artist show, and there's some indication there Mystery knows what he's doing, but you could make the case it's all directed too.

Mystery is STILL running bootcamps, so depending on how much you want to verify this, with a few thousand dollars (flight ticket + $5K bootcamp or something like that), you can go and verify on your own.

I think you might be trying to ask "does this stuff work?" and for that I'd say the answer is "yes, but..."
Yes, it works, but in some particular contexts, not everywhere all the time. Mystery used to say he can open 5 out of 5 sets (i.e. have the group let him in), but I call bull on that. He can probably open 3 out of 5 which is still a bajillion times better than the average guy.

One important piece that is almost never discussed when people talk about The Game or MM, is that mystery says that a pickup artist has to be the exception. So a good idea is to ask what most guys are doing, and find a way to stand out by not doing that (within reason)

These pick up artists will only show you the good bits. I can only recall one, who doesn't do it anymore, who also used to post the video's of his fails, and often featured fails in his main vids. They wern't staged either. Unfortunately, he is now in a long term with someone and hid the channel from view.

What is really important is that you improve in yourself to be better at game, which takes solid foundations, time and effort to practice and perfect, with a lot of fails along the way, and even the best looking and succesful PUAs fail. There are plenty of guides that can allow you to "Fake it till you make it", but you will effectively have to become a different person to who you really are, and longer term, it is exhausting keeping hold of a frame and eventually when you are burned out, you drop the frame and become the real you, and you lose the girl/rotation. It's ok putting on an act for a quickie or a ONS, but that's about it.

I just got to a part in the book where he talks about banging a girl in Croatia and leaving her a few euros to pay for the bottle of wine they'd drank. I'm from Croatia, Croatia wasn't using the euro as its currency when this book was published.

To be fair, this bit in the book comes when he mentions a whirlwind of travels to different countries and girls he bangs there, so perhaps a detail like what the currency was in a given country might have slipped his mind.

Are you reading the English version or a translation? Could you write the Chapter and page no.?
