Short term vs long term relationships

Do you guys behave the same no matter if you wish to have a long term relationship or just have a fling? What im really try to ask is, are they ruled by the same "laws". 

Dont know if you have seen The mentalist (great f*cking show) but there is a seducer there for an episode. He stated that in pickup, women are attracted to excitement and something else, i cant recall what (maybe ill come back to this thread when i re watch it haha). Then Patrick Jane talks about how to keep a woman. His formula was "love and affection".

There are no laws that rule them beyond generalizations. If they are attracted to you and/or you have something they want, you have more of a chance of seduction. If they like you as a person and/or there is a benefit to being with you, it will give you more of a chance of keeping them around long term. Notice in my "and/or" description, both have an emotional and transactional(not necessarily monetary) value. I think the description that you gave, the first guy was using excitement as a transactional value assigned to seduction while the second guy is using love and affection as an emotional value. At this point, it's the woman that decides which is more valuable when it comes to her wanting to stay around long term. I've seen women leave long term relationships because the guy was boring and others because of the lack of emotional connection.
